Communion and the Body of Christ

Sometimes Communion isn’t just bread and wine. Sometimes Communion is when you have a hypoglycemic spell in the middle of the service,  and one parishioner digs glucose tablets out of her purse, while another parishioner runs to the parish hall fridge for a glass of orange juice, while making you sit down in your chair. Those glucose tablets, and glass of orange juice were the Body and Blood of Christ for me today.

And it is when your rector walks you to her office, and fetches you water, and makes you lie down on the couch to rest for at least a half hour before attempting to drive home. It’s a definite reminder that we are all part of the Body of Christ, and how, if one member is hurting, it hurts them all.
